Getting here has been a long journey, and I’m so excited to share it with you. I didn't find macrame; macrame found me. More accurately, it found me when I needed it the most.
For 25 years, I worked as a professional executive chef, building a career I was deeply passionate about. But at the age of 43, my life changed in an instant when I suffered a stroke. I had to relearn how to walk, and I knew that my path in the culinary world had ended. It was a brutal reality to face, but as I sat in Montefiore Hospital, going through physical and occupational therapy, I found myself at a crossroads.
One day, my neurologist asked, "What do you do in your spare time?" I paused, not knowing how to answer. At that moment, work, sleep, and repeat filled my life. But as I sat there, supported by my husband of 26 years and our son, who was just a sophomore in high school, I knew I had to find a new way forward. At that time, I was facing many struggles: my health, my weight (approaching 450 lbs), and the emotional toll it had all taken. But my most important decision during this time was to change my life.
I lost over 250 lbs and am still on that journey, but it wasn’t just about losing weight. I needed to find something that would help me heal, both physically and emotionally. That’s when I discovered macramé—a craft that strengthened my left hand and, more importantly, my spirit. I can't even remember how I stumbled upon it, but I know that social media connected me to this beautiful art form. Once I began, I couldn’t stop.
Alongside my creative journey, I also pursued my education. I’m enrolled at Penn State University, studying Educational Advocacy and Law. I’m also working as a case manager in the foster care industry, a job that fills me with pride and purpose. It reminds us that we can find our calling even in the toughest times.
I’m thrilled to share my handmade macrame journey and invite you to explore my work here. I’ll soon be offering classes and have had the privilege of participating in several artist markets. I also enjoy drop spindling and working with fiber in all its forms—it’s truly become my passion.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or want to connect.
I’d love to hear from you!
